As a horse owner, you’ll know that the colder months can be a challenge. However,
a bit of forward planning and preparation can go a long way to make your life easier.
In this blog post, we’ll take a look at our top tips to get you through the autumn and
winter.
Stock up
Don’t get caught out – stock up early! Bulk buying your bedding and feed means
you’re less likely to run low on supplies when you need them most. As well as your
bedding and feed, make sure you’ve got a few good quality rugs of different weights
to keep your horse warm and comfortable as the weather starts to change.

Be wary of mud fever
Mud fever is a common condition horses face as the wet weather starts to set in.
Signs and symptoms can include broken or damaged skin, heat and swelling in the
lower limb and patches of hair loss.
To stop mud from sticking, apply pig oil to dry and clean legs. This will repel water
and protect your horse’s legs. Lincoln Pig Oil comes in an easy-to-use spray bottle
and has a variety of purposes. Not only does it create a waterproof barrier, it acts as
a deterrent to parasites and conditions the coat.
Be bright and be seen
As dark evenings and grey skies start to set in, your hi-vis gear is more important
than ever. We stock a range of reflective clothing and tack to keep you bright and
visible when you’re out and about.
